Holiday Cooking
It’s that time of year when we do a lot of holiday baking in Plainfield. Christmas cookies, pies, fudge, and candy are holiday staples. The holiday season is a great time to bake with the kids, and they love being involved in every step of the process!
SERVPRO® of Plainfield/Naperville South responds to fire damage emergencies throughout the holidays and sees the destruction even a small cooking fire can cause. Everything in the house smells like smoke and gets covered in soot. The National Fire Protection Association offers these tips to keep your family safe this holiday season:
Cooking Safety
- Test your smoke alarms and tell your guests about your home fire escape plan
- Stay in the kitchen when cooking on the stovetop
- Keep anything that can catch fire away from your stovetop
- Keep holiday decorations away from open flames
If you have a cooking fire
- Just get out! When you leave, close the door behind you to help contain the fire.
- Call 9-1-1 or the local emergency number after you leave.
- If you try to fight the fire, be sure others are getting out, and you have a clear way out.
- For an oven fire, turn off the heat and keep the door closed.
