High Water Usage in Aurora?

SERVPRO® of Plainfield/Naperville South has been restoring water damage for Aurora residents for many years. Checking your winter water usage is a good way to determine if you have a hidden water leak. Many water leaks are not visible, but according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), minor water leaks cause more than one trillion gallons of water to be wasted in United States homes each year. Here are some ways to detect water leaks from the EPA:
- An excellent method to check for leaks is to examine your winter water use. A family of four likely has a serious leak problem if its winter water use exceeds 12,000 gallons per month.
- Check your water meter before and after a two-hour period when no water is being used. If the meter does not read exactly the same, you probably have a leak.
- To check for a toilet bowl leak, place a drop of food coloring in the toilet tank. You have a leak if the color shows up in the bowl within ten minutes without flushing.
